D-Mannose

D-mannose is a sugar that is naturally occurring in our body and is also found in small quantities in some fruits in our diet. However, D-mannose is metabolized very differently from sugars the body uses for energy. Instead, the body metabolizes only very small amounts of it and excretes the rest in the urine. Studies have shown there is no insulin response to D-mannose in the body and therefore may be safely taken by diabetics. For over 17 years,Jonathan V. Wright, MD has been successfully using D-mannnose for E. coli UTIs in his patients at the Tahoma Clinic. Cases have included dramatic reversals of intractable chronic infections resistant to antibiotics. Until now D-mannose wasn't commercially viable, as sources were scarce and expensive making it unfeasible for widespread availability. Recent advancements in technology have increased production and brought down costs making it now affordable.

Leading practitioners of alternative medicine are now recommending D-mannose. Dr. Ronald Hoffman, MD director of the Hoffman Center and host of the popular radio show Health Talk recommends it.Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, director of the Center for CFS/FM therapies is another prominent supporter of D-mannose.Health media, including Let's Live and Alternative Medicine Magazine, have published articles on D-mannose and its benefits in treating UTIs
